"When you start working, everybody is in your studio--the past, your friends, enemies, the art world, and above all, your own ideas--all are there. But as you continue painting [or writing or creating], they start leaving, one by one, and you are left completely alone. Then, if you are lucky, even you leave."
I know what Cage is talking about, though I'm not yet alone in the studio . . . this takes time, I think.

Hey Deborah, thanks for the quote and the photos! I like the juxtaposition of the shards and the quote about how everybody is there...I also like the words here "shards" "fragments" "broken" "found"😊
ReplyDeleteHello Deborah,
ReplyDeleteAssemblage #1 - The colors! Deborah, I love these colors together so much. Reflective, nurturing, calming, meditative, in order, placing and rhyme, they are happily made for each other.
Assemblage #2 - The tile houses remind me of innocent, childlike building blocks, (think you brought your younger self into the studio), simple, but yet firm and strong .....and then the person, lying prostrate, a very interesting juxtaposition, I think.
The John Cage quote is profound and the shedding process concept, a highly meaningful good analogy for the creative process, and many spiritual journeys too.
Love,
Patricia
Hi Deborah, I LOVE the Cage quote! So a propos to everything about life, isn't it?
